In 1811, Friedrich Krupp, member of an old family of merchants in Essen, Germany, and two partners founded a factory for the manufacture of English cast steel and products made from this steel. From 1816 as sole proprietor Krupp manufactured high-quality cast steel which he used to produce tanner's tools, coining dies and coin blanks. Through the years, the main source of income was the armaments industry, but Krupp is also known for their sturdy, reliable can making machinery. In 1953 the company structure changed from a family business to an internationally active conglomerate. Then, as early as the 1980’s, negotiations were conducted on a merger of Thyssen Stahl AG and Krupp Stahl AG, resulting in the Thyssen Krupp AG company in 1997.
Krupp stands for high quality machinery from Germany.
